OCD can have a deep and lasting impact, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. It’s more than being organized or cautious. OCD involves intrusive or distressing thoughts and repetitive behaviors (mental and physical) that can disrupt how you think, feel, and relate to the world around you.

According to the International OCD Foundation, about 1 in 40 adults in the U.S. live with OCD or will do so at some point in their life.

Types of OCD I commonly treat:

  • taboo thoughts

  • sensorimotor OCD

  • decision making paralysis or regret

  • magical thinking

Common symptoms include rituals, avoidance, and a cycle of doubt that feels impossible to break. Everyone’s experience with OCD is different, and so is the path to recovery. But healing is possible with OCD therapy, and you don’t have to do it alone.

OCD is not simply your brain being hijacked by your amygdala. You are acting on doubt when no such doubt should be present. This represents a normal process (doubting something) being misapplied to concerns being built from a sophisticated and hyperactive imagination. With Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we dive deep into the reasoning errors you are making and dismantle them so that you are no longer under the spell of your OCD. In addition, I incorporate key principles of rumination and response prevention to help you fully unlock yourself from the grasp of OCD.

  • ICBT is a non-exposure approach that helps you challenge OCD by recognizing the imagined story behind the fear, reconnecting with facts, and trusting your senses.

  • ERP helps you gradually face fears and reduce compulsions in a safe, supported way. I find this especially effective for clients overwhelmed by physical rituals and magical thinking.

  • An evidence based treatment to address rumination and worry. Maybe you feel like your OCD jumps from topic to topic? Rather than looking at what you are worried about, we look at how you are thinking to address the root cause of anxiety and OCD.
