Chronic pain can take the joy out of everything

Patients come to me when:

  • You have physical pain or symptoms that doctors cannot understand

  • You have had all the test and still don’t have a clear diagnosis

  • You have tried lots of treatments but none of them have resolved the problem completely

  • The pain came out of nowhere, or even if it did result from an incident it doesn’t make sense why you still have pain or symptoms

  • You worry and catastrophize about your condition and wonder if this is how the rest of your life will look like

  • People tell you its “all in your head” or dismiss your condition

  • The pain or symptoms have evolved since the beginning, getting worse or moving around to different body parts

  • Stress and worry make the symptoms worse

  • You’ve heard "You just need to focus" more times than you can count

Chronic pain and sensory problems are usually not a pure physical issue. They are a result of both biological and psychological factors and often the psychological factors can play a leading role in symptoms when the underlying medical reason seems to be a mystery. You are not going crazy and you can heal - we just need to change the way you are thinking and behaving in relation to your symptoms.

According to the CDC, approximately 24.3% of adults in the U.S. live with chronic pain, and many people resign to living their lives with this condition. The reality is that while pain is complex, chronic pain treatment can help you recover from even the most difficult of situations. I’ve helped numerous patients who have struggled with basic functioning regain control over their bodies and minds in as little as a month. This is possible for you too if you are ready to take a different approach and start treating the root of the issue: addressing rumination, attention, and avoidance.

Let's Talk

Chronic Pain Treatment With ME

Below, you can explore my primary methodologies – think of these like “frameworks” for how we might collaborate.

  • Recovery from chronic pain involves psycho-education around pain science and how the brain interprets context to create pain. You will hear stories, metaphors, and research to understand pain and take back control of your body.

  • An evidence based treatment to address rumination and worry. Is your thought and attention fixated on your pain all day? This is a problem at the heart of chronic pain symptoms and this treatment will help you learn to disconnect from constant engagement with your pain so that you can heal.

  • A type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) where people slowly face situations that make them anxious. We use this by slowly approaching painful situations in a safe and calculated way to re-wire the brain from perceiving the situation as dangerous to perceiving it as safe. This leads to reductions in symptoms.
