California OCD Therapy Intensives
with Joshua Kohansamad, LMFT
telehealth across California, Florida + South Carolina
I’m an OCD therapist who also has OCD.
I’ve been studying OCD for more than 20 years and treating it clinically for the last 6 - OCD is the cornerstone of my practice.
Do you spend a significant part of your day trying to resolve thoughts that never feel fully resolved?
Are you stuck reviewing, analyzing, checking, or searching for certainty even when you know it isn’t helping?
Have you tried therapy before but still feel confused, unsupported, or unsure how to get unstuck?
I understand how exhausting it is to spend hours trapped inside your own mind. I also know that with focused treatment, OCD can take up far less of your life.
Most OCD intensive clients are done
in about 3 to 12 weeks
Clients Come to Me When They’re:
Spending hours in their head
Stuck in loops
Avoiding activities they want to enjoy
Feel OCD’s effects in their body
Frustrated that previous therapy didn’t help
Looking for clear direction and sustained progress
Want a faster treatment period
OCD Can Take On Many Subtypes, Including:
Pure O or Obsessional OCD
Health OCD
Relationship OCD
Harm OCD
Perfectionism
Contamination OCD
And many more
OCD does not look exactly the same for everyone.
The content of the fear may change, but the pattern often stays the same: doubt appears, your mind demands resolution, and you become pulled into compulsions or mental problem-solving.
When this cycle is keeping you from living the life you want, specialized treatment can help you see through it and respond differently.
How My OCD Intensives Work
The Two OCD Treatment Tracks I Use
Depending on how your OCD operates, we’ll use one of two focused treatment tracks.
Instead of meeting for 45-50 minutes once a week, we meet for multiple hours across multiple days.
This increased amount of time allows us to go deeper without repeatedly losing momentum between sessions. We spend less time catching up and more time understanding your OCD, practicing new skills, and applying them directly to your life.
Every intensive is customized.
We’ll meet to understand what you’re experiencing, review your history and therapeutic timeline, and create a treatment plan based on your needs and what we believe will produce the best results as efficiently as possible.
I also provide support between intensive sessions. This added connection creates accountability, keeps you engaged in the work, and helps you feel less alone as you begin changing long-standing patterns.
-
Inference-Based CBT, or I-CBT, helps you recognize when OCD has pulled you away from what is actually happening and into an imagined possibility.
Rather than endlessly debating the thought, we work on understanding how OCD created the doubt in the first place so you can stop treating it as a problem that must be solved.
-
Exposure and Response Prevention helps you face uncertainty without relying on the compulsions OCD tells you are necessary.
Metacognitive Therapy helps you change how you understand and respond to thinking itself—especially rumination, monitoring, analyzing, and mental checking.
OCD treatment is not about finding the perfect answer to every obsession.
It is about learning that you do not need to give these doubts your attention in the first place.
My approach is structured, active, individualized, and grounded in decades of focused study
and evidence-based OCD treatment.
After OCD Intensives With Me, Clients Report:
Obsessions take minutes, not hours a day
Knowing how to handle OCD when it flares
Less time spent in or a complete resolution of ongoing mental loops
Clarity about what matters and what doesn’t
More time for relationships and meaningful activities
Feeling present instead of trapped

Psychotherapist
I’m a licensed psychotherapist specializing in OCD, anxiety disorders, and chronic pain.
For more than two decades, I’ve immersed myself in studying these conditions and the pathways to recovery. OCD is not simply one area of my practice; it is work I care deeply about and understand from both sides of the therapy room.
As someone who has OCD myself, I know how convincing the doubts can feel and how exhausting it is to become trapped in cycles of analysis and doubt.
I combine that personal understanding with advanced clinical training and current research.
I frequently work with clients who have already tried traditional therapy but still feel stuck. My goal is to provide the clarity, structure, and specialized treatment needed to create a faster path to meaningful and lasting change.
